Glamoured by Scandinavia

2009-06-23. Category: Latest News.

Our impressions from this year journey to Finland. Our curly Beta decided to aarrange everything according to its nature and we spent a unique week in yearning Scandinavia. Drive by the sea coast in Latvia, a ferry from Tallinn… After two hours in the ferry we are at Helsinki 🙂 The first promenade – its hard to keep the troika 🙂

A sight at one direction.

A visit in Turku – where is the whale?

One of Turku docks.

Together with the fellow Aki. The liver curly lives in an exciting terrain – you may see the immense distance from the hill…

Our first camp on the sea coast at the bay. Its phantastic to awake after the noise of waves…

…ant to see the swans landing the water…

The dogs tuned the holiday.

What are you sitting, brownish?

I could make a very very huge hole 🙂

One dog, two tales 🙂

The owner of the second tale.

Freedom.

Take No 2: Freedom.

Curly mermaid.

Family portret.

One is in a graceful step…

…another always working…

Almost a swan. You see I’m so elegant as they 🙂

After visiting the curly Aki we turned to the unique old city Rauma in the south-west of Finland. Its old town was inscribed in Unesco in 1991. It is a unimitable heritage of wooden architecture and carvings. The view started at the old market square.

The narrow cosystreets with wooden cottages.

The intense green… Real idyll…

Like in a fairy-tale – the woodhouse with carvings.

The old water pump 🙂

After the walking in the old Rauma’s streets we turned to one more Unesco heritage (from 1999) – it is Sammallahdenmäki burials – stone cairns from the Bronze age and the Lappi parish in Lowe Satakunta over 20 km from  Rauma. The evening was coming fast. We were walking alone and the mystic surroundings inspired an awesome respect.

The cuddly moss…

Sitting on the millennium rock.

We stayed no longer as we had no wish to meet  the midnight  in the burials 🙂 Quickly we turned to the south. The biting green.

At the camping– on the sea coast, with the sauna and dark scandinavian green and the azure of the sea.

Dock.

Sailor? No. Super-retriever 🙂

Its nice…

Drive further. Coffee time.

Our next hourney stage was so unexpected… After the visiting Turku information and tourism centre we saw the map of Turku archipelago. Nearly 250 km of road through the islands… We decided without thinking twice – we are going 🙂 We crossed the islands and islets, we got there by ferrys – big and little; we serpentined in the perfect nature; then got by ferry again… Our course was:

The snappy road sign 🙂

A little ferry.

A better ferry.

A big local ferry.

Journey in the sea.

Port after port.

Is this little bark going after us? 🙂

Eden…

An old church in the island…

…wilde nature…

…ant the ferry again… coffee time on the top of ferry…

…the azure distances…

Greeting by Super-retriever from Finland 🙂

The funny water garages.

The fish farms 🙂

The road over the archipelago was ending… One more stop in the dock.

The midsummer night was coming. Its a day, when Finns go the the forests… the empty archipelago started to fill with people. We were lucky – we were going the opposite direction 🙂

the last camp and walking on the rocks. A nostalgic sight…

A view from the tent…

The last journey day and the road to Helsinki. Last year this section with almost ten tunnels was not finished 🙂

The last promenade in Helsinki. Real traffic 🙂

The midsummer night’s symbol – branches of the birch. They are everywhere – even in the tourist ferries 🙂

Towards the white cathedral.

Overhead…

Wandering in the streets and docks of Helsinki.

A man was playing the trumpet. Gues, what he was playing 🙂 The Helsinki street was sounding with the russian military march  „Den’ pobedy“ ( „Day of victory“)…

The last stop in Helsinki – cafe „Ursula“ and the taste of curd cake with cloudberries jam.

„Ursula“… According to Helsinki residents it is one of the most romantic places in the city… You may see a nice sea view through the windows… Its no matter that the sky is grey…

And as we were coming back in a ferry we were wondering about the unlimited scandinavian phantasy 🙂

Houses and cottages

Sauna cabin

Trash cabin

Post and bus stop cabin

Little mill

And many many scandinavian details 🙂

All this makes the solid scandinavian mood and environment. We return here for the fifth time and leaving we repeat – we will come back. What a wonder question – what is the magnet of Scandinavia? People? Nature? The sense of abandoned freedom? All together. Also this time we met some wonderful people – it is  Marika (greetings to Sali 🙂 ), Satu – an owner of curly  Aki, Tiina and  Tuomas and their curly Metzo. It was nice to meet you:) And we know – we’ll come back 🙂

For the end – journey portrets:
